Review Tour: A Brutal Betrayal by DC Renee

Synopsis

Past. Everyone has one. It shapes the person they become. It determines the present. It even contributes to the future. And sometimes, people are thrown together in spite of it.

It was no secret that Megan Verona was raped. It crippled her being, turning her from a vibrant young woman to someone who feared intimacy. After years of struggling, she decided to seek help with a therapist, Declan Connors, in hopes of being able to finally have a relationship. Declan wanted to help Megan; he wanted to help everyone who sought his aid, but she was different. She consumed his thoughts until he could no longer deny his feelings. He hadn’t expected to fall for her and fall hard, but he did. It was a wonder when she returned some of his sentiment. But, like everyone, Declan also has a past, one riddled with pain and anguish, one he hadn’t fully dealt with.

If helping Megan brought out his own shadows, what did loving her do? How do both their pasts play a role in their future? Most importantly, can they conquer the past that threw them together?

A Brutal Betrayal is a deeply emotionally and traumatic book to read so prepare yourself.  It's a story of hope, love, betrayal, remorse, change, forgiveness and so much more.

Megan, as a teenager, has her life destroyed and ripped apart by a monster.  I don't even and can't even call him a man.  He's a monster plain and simple.  Some how, some way she has the fortitude and strength to climb out of the hole of depression that many would sink into and never recover from.  She goes from therapist to therapist getting a little help here and there but never deep enough to heal the fear of intimacy that she now has.  That is until her last therapist recommends Declan.  Declan has no idea how he is going to help Megan but just knows that he was to find a way to get through her last remaining issues so she can live a full, happy and normal life.  Along the way the lines blur between therapist, friend and eventually love.  All the sudden as Declan finally opened his heart up to love his past came back to haunt him.  There are 2 sides to every story which can be equally as gruesomely devastating.  It doesn't always make things right or forgivable but just something to keep in mind.  Call it fate, Karma or whatever but his past may just destroy them both.

I applaud the strong courageous character that the author has given us in Megan.  Probably one of the strongest that I have read so far.  Declan is so patient and kind and makes the perfect therapist for Megan.  The plot was super intense and I more than once had to stop reading and focus on something else for a while because it was in no way easy to read.  It will be one that stays with me for a long while.  I have found another fabulous author that I can't wait to read more of.  If you read this, I highly recommend you read the book.
