When Callie Rycroft wakes to find purple flames flickering on the ceiling, she believes she’s still dreaming. But soon she’s forced to accept that she has magic―a special magic that grants her entrance into the Faery Realm.
For centuries humans have been banned from Faery, but dangerous times call for dangerous measures. Declared Champion by the Faery Queen, Callie is assigned a Guardian, and tasked with finding the Cordial―a magical elixir needed to keep the portal to the Faery realm a secret from humans.
The downside? She's in a race not only against time, but against another Champion, and a rogue Guardian―a Guardian who stands to threaten her developing relationship with Reece.
Magic, mistaken identities, and hidden agendas are the least of Callie's worries when she learns that the Cordial requires a sacrifice. Will Callie be willing to risk everything―even Reece―to complete her task as Champion? Or will she let the portal open, and doom both realms?

Faery Marked begins with us meeting Callie, a student in
high school and she's complaining about having to get up early because her
brother has freshman college classes at the butt crack of dawn so she had to go
to school a little early. She only does that a few days a week because the
other days her crush Reece takes her to school so she gets to sleep in. That's
her biggest worry for now is getting up early after having nightmares. All that
starts to change when she starts having weird feelings around certain people
and then as the blurb says she wakes up from a nightmare one night to purple
flames on her ceiling. What!? Purple flames...I thought to myself, how cool!
Anyways, someone finally tells her what’s going on and that she's the Champion
that the faery realm needs to keep their secret and save everyone in both
realms. She steps up and does what needs to be done. She's got great character
and strength to go into something as blind as she did. With Reece by her side
as Guardian there isn't anything she can't conquer or is there? Is someone
going to lead her down a different path that could have horrible consequences?
I figured out way ahead of time where the ending was headed, well sort of
because I was still surprised about a couple of things and now I can't wait to
read the second book.
Ms. Waibel has a way of telling a story that will suck you
right in and leave you wanting more. Her characters are super fun to read
about. I loved the plot and the magic was out of this world awesome. Imagine
just thinking of something and being able to do it. I don’t read much YA but
this is definitely a great start to a new YA series and the next book can't come soon enough.
Thanks so much for the honest review! Glad you enjoyed it and that while you figured out where things were going there were still some surprises for you :-)
