I was so happy to finally read the conclusion to Leighton and Cole's story.  Violet Haze had left us hanging from book 2 so I was seriously chomping at the bit to dig into this book.  She does not disappoint with her excellently written books ever.  There are so so many twists in this last book that you will read it in one sitting because you can't put it down.  The final plot twist in Sacrifices will almost certainly give you a heart attack like it did me.  I did not see it coming at all.  Her characters are always so wonderfully written and a joy to read.
It ended exactly the way I wanted it to, with a big fat HEA!

Review: Uptight: Giving In, Part One (A Stepbrother Romance Serial)

Title: Uptight - Giving In, Part One
Author: Violet Haze
Cover Designer: Designs by Dana

Blurb

Deny the attraction, avoid his gaze, and retreat as fast as possible.

Seeing David Huntsman after nine years is unexpected in more ways than one, especially after seconds before realizing who he is, the idea of kissing him crosses my mind. Eager to escape, I barely acknowledge his presence while making a run for it, my best friend Leslie laughing from behind me the whole way.

Only there’s nowhere to flee to, no steering clear of him at the college we both attend, and no dismissing the draw of what becomes my most forbidden desire.

Uptight is first in a serial of three at 82 pages, and will be followed up by Down Low and No Way Around.

This isn't your typical Violet Haze book but still just as awesome as we are used to seeing from her.  It is a bit slower paced and fun to read and there is less sex in it well actually none.  I hope she corrects that mistake in part 2 haha.  And the best part of all is that it doesn't have the "killer" cliffhanger at the end.  Obviously it will leave you hanging because there is a part 2 and 3 coming but it's more gently done than she normally likes to torture her readers with.  David and Katriona make a great set of characters and you think their story will take one turn when bam that door closes.  I can't wait to see how their story continues to unfold in part 2.

Review: Mate (Part Four) by Violet Haze

Blurb

Note: this is the final part in a serial of four; read Part's One through Three first. ~125 print pages. Update 7/16 w/ fixed version.

Isaac’s led into an untenable position by his past, making him face responsibility for his part in what’s happening.

Simone’s naiveté and kindness make her an easy target, while a new temptation prompts her to examine what it is she truly desires.

And when the danger they’re put in culminates in a death, the shaky foundation their relationship’s built on may not be enough to save it in the end.

Simone finds herself in a very precarious situation.  To fight or not to fight, that is the question.
Meanwhile, Isaac & Jim rush to the hotel to try and save Malik's life from his cray cray ex, Lizzy, and hoping to god that Simone is there too.  In the end of this fiasco, someone will die.  Will this life changing event destroy Simone and Isaac's fragile relationship?
Drama abounds in between the pages of this book.  You are really never sure how it is going to play out and where it will end.  Violet Haze astonishes me once again with her characters and story telling ability in the last of the Mate Serials.

Blurb

Isaac’s secret is out, and he doesn't feel deserving of Simone’s forgiveness, let alone her submission.

Although unsure about Isaac’s feelings about her, Simone is ready to give their unconventional relationship her all.

Nothing is ever easy though, especially when Isaac’s past comes back to haunt him, endangering not only the woman he loves, but Malik as well.

Note: this is Part Three of a romance serial of Four, with strong language and content. Please read Part One and Part Two first.

My Review

As the blurb explains, the proverbial cat is out of the bag and Simone now knows that Isaac was her master.  He makes it clear that she will not be leaving his house with their son and that's perfect because she has no desire to. But that doesn't mean that she doesn't struggle to understand why Isaac lied by omission and wouldn't tell her who he really was.  He tries to show her some papers and explain but she already knows the story from her ex-husband.  She drops more f-bombs which is pretty funny because he's still counting and she's still antagonizing him.
It is epic when they finally come together for the first time with her knowing who he is.  I love the explanation of the name Cara that he called her in Part one and the explanation of why he won't call her that now and the exact point in time that this conversation is taking place is perfect.
Things are going well between them for a couple of weeks when something from Isaac's past rear's it's ugly head and by ugly I mean ex-fiance troubles.  Here is where Ms. Haze throw's you for a freaking loop once more during the Mate serials.  I didn't see the ending coming like it did.  I'm not going to say it was perfect because I hate cliff hangers and I'm pretty sure I called her a few not so nice names because of this ending.  Totally hooked and part four can not come soon enough for my taste.

Blurb

Simone’s not the same woman she was when freed from that dark room all those months ago.

Isaac’s not the man she thinks he is, his desire to have her close soon overruling his sense.

And while two people can play a game, only one person will win.

Note: this is Part Two of a romance serial of four meant for mature audiences only. Please read Part One first, and enjoy.

My Review

We start off part two with a pretty nasty Simone attitude full of f-bombs and slapping when Isaac surprises her outside the diner again.  I thought it was interesting to see the difference in the Simone in this book compared to the Simone in the first book after just a month of time passing.  Bitter maybe because of the ending of book 1 (which I will not go into detail about in case you haven't read it yet)?  Isaac takes her for a ride so they can talk and she notices they are getting farther away from where she lives, she flips out and there is an accident.  This part was done really quickly, you almost miss it, but don't worry you will get the full details on the accident later on.  This accident leaves Simone needing to recuperate and unable to be moved so her, Malik and Helen are staying with Isaac. You might think that this would prove to be disastrous for Isaac and you would be right.  He's unable to keep the secret for long and one innocent little blanket mistake has more Simone f-bombs dropping. Can Simone stop cussing and is Master going to be able to punish her properly? Or will his deception be too much for Simone?
Unlike in part one which was entirely in Simone's POV, part two has 2 chapters in Isaac's POV, so we get to see what's going on in his head during all this time and I have to say I absolutely love being in Isaac's mind.  Can't wait for more!

Isaac is a man on a mission, and he’ll do whatever it takes to claim Simone as his own, forever.

My Review

This story immediately pulls you right in the middle of what seems like sub/master scenario between Cara (Simone) and a mystery man.  But you quickly learn there is a twist in the story.  One that you do not see coming at all and will leave you thinking to yourself what in the hell just happened.   Fast forward 10 months later and Simone is working as a waitress and struggling to make ends meet as a single parent.  Then one day a man is dining where Simone works and leaves her a huge tip and we come to find out his name is Isaac and he seems interested in Simone.  She wonders about him and is attracted to him but as time passes she doesn't think she'll see him again as he hasn't been back into the diner.  That is until he accosts her outside the diner one night.  Can she let him in after still being in love with her mysterious master/kidnapper?  This is a quick read and great beginning to a new serial by Violet.

My Review

Ryker and Danita have struggled with heartache in all of the previous books and the theme continues in the final conclusion to the Loving My Angel series.  Will anyone have there HEA ending or will there be one tragedy that ends it all?  Violet Haze has a way with her characters that really bring them to life and make them seem so real and easy to relate to.  The characters are quite complex; they have real fears, real insecurities and real reactions to difficult and tragic situations.

I had a hard time deciding between 4 and 5 stars.  I think I changed it 4 times before I settled on a 5 star rating.  Except for the big time jump at the end of LMA #4, that I did not care for, I do love this book and the entire series.  It wasn't the time jump that necessarily bothered me in LMA #4 it's what was skipped over during the time jump.  Even though it may have not been necessary to write about, I feel it was so much a part of the Loving My Angel series it should have warranted a brief chapter on.  But again, I still love the book.  Will I read more books by Violet Haze?  Absolutely - I'm a fan for life!

Review
Leighton seems to have the perfect life at the beginning of the book. Until she doesn't.
It seems Leighton is trying to convince herself that her life is perfect as much as the author is trying to convince her readers. I love this part of the book, it really starts the whole story line off in exactly the right spot. Then people have a way of bumping into your life when you least expect it and your whole outlook on life changes within an instant. Flirting and attraction is a bad temptation for a starved-for-affection woman. Things get hot and heavy pretty quickly in this book. Someone needs to turn down the heat!
Leighton's husband, Mason, started off being okay and then he turned into a complete douche-sicle fast like he had multiple personality disorder or something. I can't believe the nerve he had bringing his so called secretary to dinner! I felt sorry for their kids all throughout the story.
I loved everything about this serial other than it ended way too quickly.
The blurb is very intriguing and hopefully we get some answers soon to those questions in it. Hint hint Ms. Haze can you write #2 quickly, please?
