What is ‘River Walk’ and how did this idea come about?
I was writing a scene in my second novel when I thought uh oh, what if I'm describing this scene the same way that I described a similar scene in my first novel. I needed to ensure I wasn't repeating myself. Which got me mulling….it would be cool to collaborate with female Authors, because each of them would bring something unique to the party. Immediately I thought of those “Duets” albums. You know, Elton John & Friend...s, type of thing.
Imagine – ten incredible female writers, working with me, bringing different stories to life.
If I wrote 10 stories in isolation - I bet they'd be somewhat similar, one to the next. But this way, each writer brings her style, her flare, her talent. And yet, each is interpreting an idea that originated from one single male Author. I haven't seen anything like it. River Walk was born.
The stories are also all tied together, very loosely (intentionally) by the famous River Walk
in San Antonio.

Help Wanted
An Assignment:  Romance Novel #2
Barbara Valentin

When Claire Nelson decided that her happily-ever-after lay not in marriage but in a spot on the New York Times bestseller list, she vowed never to tie the knot. Almost fifteen years and four sons later, Claire is now a burned out breadwinner ready to ditch her quest for happily-ever-after, and Paul has traded his dream of chairing corporate board meetings for volunteering at PTA meetings as a stay-at-home dad. Feeling trapped in a demanding job, Claire's repeated attempts to get Paul to return to work fall flat. Contemplating divorce, she drafts a letter to the Plate Spinner, a popular advice columnist, asking for help. But when the reply contains an offer that may just put her bestselling author dreams back on track, Claire's only question is: will Paul be on board? Excerpt:

"Dear Plate Spinner—I need your help."
After reading the plea out loud, Mattie Ross, the Chicago Gazette's reluctant advice columnist and marathon-runner-in-training, cringed.
Another letter from a frazzled working mother, seeking direction and hope— commodities she herself was in dire need of ever since her coach walked out on her, taking her heart with him.
            Nick.
Her heart squeezed in her chest and she closed her eyes. After hiding behind the same I'm married with kids lie she her perpetuated with her publisher and readers for the eight months he had spent training her, she could hardly blame him for being upset.
With a heavy sigh, she texted her editor, Dianne Devane. Any openings in Metro yet?
Almost before she hit Send, she got her response. Sit tight, sweetie. I'm working on it.
Emitting a quick growl, Mattie turned her attention back to her computer screen and skimmed the brief account of the weary woman's conundrum.
"The salary of my demanding, soul-sucking job is holding me hostage. I haven't had a vacation in over five years (maternity leaves do not count). I see my kids so infrequently, that if I don't keep their pictures on my desk current, I tend not to recognize them in passing (their resemblance truly is jarring). Any friends I have left have given up hope of ever seeing me in person again, especially when I had to cancel my appearance at an intervention they were staging on my behalf, because I had to meet an absolutely critical deadline. As it is, I'm spread so thin, I make plastic wrap look opaque. My only hope is to convince my husband, a stay-at-home dad to our boys, to return to the corporate world. Chances of this happening, though, are slim to none—especially after he machine-washed yet another one of my dry-clean- only sweaters, and I leveled him with a 'does not meet expectations' on his most recent performance review (I mean, seriously—can you blame me?).
Needless to say, it did not go over well. He has since relocated to the man cave-slash-office down the hall and has barely spoken to me since.
So, tell me. Should I force his hand and quit my job, or file for divorce and offer him a job as a live-in nanny (because he looks a hell of a lot better in an apron than I do)?"
It was signed "Burned Out Breadwinner."
Mattie didn't know whether to send the writer a list of local marriage counselors or encourage her to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. Staring at the ceiling above her cubicle for a moment, the advice columnist tried to think of a fitting response.

Wrapped

Manhattan Bound Series #2
By Juliette Braddock
Cover Design: WLK Media

Synopsis

Sweeping through the glitz and glamour of New York’s high society and the drama unfolding in the dressing rooms of Broadway, Wrapped, by Juliet Braddock, continues the journey of a young theatrical publicist’s foray into submission under the tutelage of a dashingly dark star of the stage. Wrapped—the much anticipated sequel to Braddock’s critically acclaimed erotic romance Weakened—is the second book in the Manhattan Bound series.

When Drew McKenzie presents Maxine Kirk with an ultimatum, challenging her to engage in his wanton brand of desire, she readily embraces her awakening hunger for a lifestyle that defies her perceptions of romance.

Entranced by Drew’s charming appeal and by his sensual assault to her senses, Maxine clamors to discover every nuance of this new relationship, ravenous to explore verboten fantasies that seem possible to fulfill only with Drew.

Along the way, he introduces her to his glamorous world of wealth and celebrity—where lavish galas and luxurious gifts are the norm—and entices her into his realm of control with his tender mode of domination.

All the while, however, they both grapple with painful emotions brought about by the extenuating circumstances of their separate pasts.

While Drew remains both confident and conscientious in his parlay of power over Maxine, his own tragic secret lurks in every shadow upon his path in life. Behind the façade of his stage persona and the origin of old Manhattan society, he struggles to hide the unforgiving reality he faced as a child.

Just as Maxine finds the strength to conquer her own torment with Drew’s patience and guidance leading her toward closure, terrifying truths begin to chip away at the surface of his composure.

As the nightmarish details of Drew’s unimaginable life emerge, he fears that this new world he’d begun to build with Maxine will crumble around him. As Maxine finds herself embroiled in the battle to save Drew’s tortured soul from the atrocities that continue to stalk his every move, two lost souls struggling to find comfort and completion converge.

However, as Drew opens his heart to Maxine’s unwavering support, he questions his own bravery, wondering if she’ll take a bow and make her exit…or if she’ll stick around for the encore?

Review: The Syrian Virgin by Zack Love

Anissa is traumatized by the most brutal conflict of the 21st Century: the Syrian Civil War. In 2012, Islamists in Homs terrorize a Syrian-Christian community and destroy everything that a young woman holds dear. Narrowly escaping death, Anissa restarts her devastated life as a college student in NY. She is bewildered and lost -- a virgin in every sense.

But despite her inexperience with men and life in the United States, Anissa is quickly drawn to two powerful individuals: Michael Kassab, the Syrian-American leader working to found the first Mideast Christian state, and Julien Morales, her Columbia University professor who runs a $20 billion hedge fund.

Complicating matters, Michael is still attached to his ex-girlfriend and Julien is the most sought after bachelor in Manhattan (and has hidden demons even his therapist can't extract). Anissa's heart and her communal ties pull her in different directions, as she seeks hope and renewal in a dark world.

WARNING: This book is about a young woman's difficult journey: her escape from Syria's Civil War, her transition to a new a country, and the relationships that she forms along the way, including her romantic interests in two very different men. The story is set against the backdrop of the Syrian Civil War and makes reference to violent acts, sometimes in detail. There is some occasional profanity and a few scenes that depict sexual intimacy. Accordingly, the recommended minimum age for readers is 16. The novel might be compared to books like "The Diary of Anne Frank" or "The Kite Runner."

Review

We open the pages of The Syrian Virgin and we're instantly transported in to the middle of a war zone where we meet fourteen year old Anissa and her family. Anissa's home is becoming increasingly dangerous and her father manages to make it so she is able to flee to the US but her family is not so lucky. She has trials she has to overcome along the way, a new land and a completely different culture to get used to. We follow her through a time of danger on to her new life where she just might be able to fight for her homeland and find love along the way. Who will ultimately win her heart though; Michael, the 26yr old college student or Julien, the 41 year old billionaire hedge fund firm owner?
The book is in a type of Journal form with the first third of the book being just Anissa's journal entries. Then Julien will have some journal entries along the way. The way the author describes everything is superb. You feel like you are seeing it rather than reading it. The Syrian civil war is really brought to the forefront throughout the entire book, which I thought was really great and very interesting to read about. There is a lot of character building in this book so really nothing is resolved by the end of this book BUT book 2, Anissa's Redemption is already out so you can continue to read on. Which is exactly what I'm going to do right now. This was a really well done depiction of pretty current events with an added story telling twist of romance.

Review: Anissa's Redemption by Zack Love

This novel contains a detailed synopsis of book 1 in the series and can be read as a standalone. Anissa Toma fled war-torn Syria after narrowly escaping the massacre of her Christian family by Islamists. Fortunate enough to rebuild her shattered life in New York City, the young refugee gained admission to an elite college, where she excelled. Her beauty, brains, and purity soon captured the interest of two powerful men: Michael, an activist working to establish Antioch, the first Mideast Christian state, and Julien, her professor and one of the city’s wealthiest bachelors.

As Anissa's saga continues, the refugee-turned-rising-star must navigate between Michael and Julien, while trying to help her surviving relatives and other vulnerable Christians in Syria. As she gets closer to both men in a complex and evolving love triangle, can she unlock Julien's traumatic childhood to open up his heart? Or will Julien find greater solace from his nightmares and other demons in the sessions with his intriguing therapist? What will Michael do for Antioch and for Anissa, and what will Julien's role be? How far will each person go to help Anissa's remaining family and other persecuted Christians at risk in Syria? Find out in this stunning sequel to "The Syrian Virgin."

My Review
I received an ARC copy of this book via the author, in exchange for an honest review.

Anissa's Redemption picks up the story from The Syrian Virgin without any real break in the dialogue and journal. So if you do like I did and read them back to back it makes for a nice long book. It can be read as a standalone because Zack does give a brief run down of book 1 in the beginning of this book BUT I would pick it up so you don't miss out on anything minor that is not touched on in his brief synopsis.

I don't want to give anything away so I'm going to keep this short and sweet.
Anissa has been through so much already in the book the Syrian Virgin so you would think that Anissa's Redemption is just about Anissa finding herself and her happily ever after. But it is actually so much more than that. New character's are introduced into the active plot and there are so many shocking twists and turns that you don't see coming. Loss, hurt, heartache, self discovery and Anissa experiences them all over again. It all made for a deeply engrossing book. I can not recommend this book enough. Zack Love has another masterpiece on his hands.

Excerpt from Wild Thing

Riding in the back of the limousine on the way to the sound check, Georgie watched Alex, or Xan, or whoever he was.
He reached over and held her hand. The hard calluses on his fingertips scraped her fingers. The sympathetic interest in Alex’s dark eyes made her feel like the chaos of the world out there had quieted.
As they neared the venue, gliding through the light traffic hours before the arena began to fill, Alex’s body tensed.
First, his far leg began to twitch.
His strong fingers tapped out a complicated rhythm on the armrest on the door.
As the venue came into view—a huge arts complex like a pile of white boxes surrounded by lonely fields of empty parking lots—Alex tugged her hand toward him, and he leaned over for a kiss.
At first, his lips caressed hers, drawing out her response, an intimate and tantalizing kiss that promised more. His lips parted, and Georgie opened hers. His strong arms clamped around her waist and the back of her neck, grabbing a fistful of her long hair. He stroked her tongue with his until she felt a moan shudder in her throat, and he chuckled against her skin as he drew away.
When he lifted his head, his dark eyes held the predatory gleam of a hawk, and his lips were pinker with the blood rushing through him.
He dragged her across the car seat.
His burly arms caged her, and he pinned her against the seat and kissed her again, opening her lips with his and bending her to fit against his hard body.
She flattened her hands against his chest.
He lifted his head, looking down at her. A smile curved one side of his mouth. “We’re almost to the show, anyway.”
She couldn’t quite catch her breath. “Yeah.”
He uncoiled his arms from around her, still keeping one hand resting on her back, and he stared out the window at the arena.
His posture on the seat was wider, more possessive of the space, and his body nearly vibrated with energy.
If she hadn’t seen the change for herself, several times, she might not have believed it. It seemed more like black magic than psychology.

Review

Wild Thing is the 2nd book in the Georgie & Xan series. The story line was interesting. A lot of action;
drugs, sex and rock n' roll. I mostly loved all the characters. I still can't get a bead on Xan, much like the
1st book I was just left confused where he's concerned. Does he have Multiple Personality Disorder
does he simply wear a different persona at different times much like actors do. I'd really like this to be
made a little clearer in the next installment of this series. But maybe that is part of the whole charm
 of Xan...he's mysterious.
The band has many ups and downs right along with the 2 main characters. There is never a dull
moment while reading Wild Thing. Be forewarned you will tear up towards the end of Wild Thing
as some of the fan letters are read aloud at a band meeting after something terrible happens.
Blair's got me hooked and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
